The old horse is stately and powerful, yet understanding and knowing. He is a spiritual guide who wants to help the animals, but he knows he can only tell them what they are to do. He cannot do it for them. Poco Pico gives Max, Vivian, and Floyd each a small gift that will help them on their quest.
Everyone who meets him admires him. He is a charismatic cross between Chief Joseph and the Buddha. When the animals meet him in The Cave, he is sitting cross-legged in front of a low fire. He serves them tea.
