The City of Piety

Adobe Mission

A Spanish style city with cobblestone and dirt streets. The buildings are yellowish adobe. The daylight is gray, and the sun is not directly visible. It is outwardly very clean. The climate is dry. Little vegetation grows except for hanging plants in some of the courtyards. Women are the only civilians seen in the streets. Ominous male figures, cloaked in gray robes with their faces covered, prowl the dusty streets. The town centers around a large temple with a tall tower and a loud bell. Senturies stand guard at the town's gates and prevent unauthorized exits and entrances.

The Restaurant

Adobe building

One of scenes in this town has Floyd the Rooster, Vivian the Cow, and Max the Pig drinking coffee in a restaurant (they are served by the waitress Maria). As in the ancient painting, "The Vinegar Tasters," the characters' attitudes drinking the beverage reflects their own inner-thoughts and maturity. In the painting, the "three tasters" are Confucius, Laozi (Daoism), and the Buddha. In our story, Floyd the Rooster loosely represents a Christian philosophy, Vivian the Cow represents a Buddhist philosophy, while Max the Pig at this point is more aetheist, gnostic, or self-serving.
